1961 J.C. Higgins Tent Camping Trailer

Acquired from Craigslist in January 2018. More information to come.

This trailer was made by the Vesely company and sold under their Apache brand as the Chief. Sears Roebuck and Company also sold it under their J.C. Higgins sporting goods brand. See the listing from the 1960 Sears Summer and Fall catalog below. Going to be putting this back together and back on the road as time permits.

Following pictures are from the Craigslist ad. The buckles along the side are for straps to hold down the road cover. A modification by the owner.

From the 1961 Sears catalog. Mine didn't have the optional awning on the left.

Pictures when picking up the trailer. Had to take it through their house to get it out of the back yard.

Unfortunately the tent had been "stored" on the ground under some plastic mats. It was in pretty poor shape when I opened it up.

The tent fits to the body by slipping a flange in the canvas into the a slot around the top of the trailer.

Had to take the tongue off to get it in my utility trailer.

Taillight lenses are fortunately easy to find. Also used on Cushman scooters.

Tent poles. I think I'm missing some parts...
